These are some floral observations I’ve made while hiking. Most of these have been peer reviewed, and are considered research grade on iNaturalist.

text Blackfoot Daisy, Melampodium leucanthum

Found growing in rocky soil in Wild Basin Wilderness preserve.

text Turk’s Cap, Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii

Turk’s Cap after a recent rain. These were growing prominently in the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone.

text Western Spiderwort, Tradescantia occidentalis

This beautiful flower was growing in sandy soil in an area that used to be farmland. Interestingly, there was a significant Tarantula Hawk Pompilidae Pepsis population in the area!
